CC PROFILE VIDEO DESCRIPTION
Ecce Homo (pronounced [ˈɛkːe ˈhomo]) are the Latin words used by Pontius Pilate in the Vulgate translation of the Gospel of John (19:5), when he presented a scourged Jesus Christ, bound and crowned with thorns, to a hostile crowd shortly before his Crucifixion. Guido Reni's painting of Ecce Homo is the most popular image of Christ in history. Most people who have a version of it etched in their flesh don't realize they carry a version of the Italian Baroque master's work, and a piece of art history, close to their hearts. Guido also painted a beautifully emotional companion work called Mater Dolorosa, which depicts the sorrowful Mother. They were originally paired for display. F.T.W.
